We are the Mwezi Foundation. We light up lives. We provide a hand up, not a hand out. We are a charity which provides lending libraries of solar lights to Kenyan schools so children can do their homework.  We give solar light systems to orphanages to light up the homes and to schools for evening homework clubs.  We enable education, we provide employment, we protect the environment.  ‘Mwezi’ means ‘moon’ in Swahili. Welcome to our website.

We support education

Solar lights enable children to do their homework so they can succeed at school.  A good grade at the end of primary school can make the difference between going to a good secondary school or having to finish education after Class 8 (about age 13). Our Schools Managers, Antony and Julia, visit all the schools to distribute our lights, ensure they are being well used and managed, and to replace any lights which need servicing.

We improve the environment

Solar lights reduce the need for dangerous, unhealthy expensive kerosene lights.  All our Mwezi lights are fully serviceable, in our local workshop in Likoni so they are sustainable.  Every part can be maintained or replaced.  We guarantee our lights indefinitely, replacing them or repairing them if they fail.

We provide employment

In Likoni, Kenya, we employ John, our Technical Manager, who manufactures and services the lights in his workshop, and Antony and Julia, our Schools Managers, who distribute the light libraries to schools. They ensure the lights are used well and that all are serviced as needed.  There are no other overheads.
